Plumbing Licence Australian Capital Territory

Australian Capital Territory (ACT)

The ACT government issue Plumber, Drainer, and Gasfitter licences.

Types of Licences

There are 3 licence classes:

    1. Plumber
    2. Drainer
    3. Gasfitter

Each licence class has different scopes of work and may be subject to conditions. You need to know your class before applying.

Plumber Licence

Under this class, there are:

    1. Sanitary plumber
    2. Water supply plumber
    3. Irrigation plumber
    4. Journeyperson plumber
    5. Fire sprinkler fitter
    6. Journeyperson fire sprinkler fitter

Drainer Licence

Under this class, there are:

    1. Advanced sanitary drainer
    2. Journeyperson sanitary drainer
    3. Operative drainer

Gasfitter Licence

Under this class, there are:

    1. Advanced gasfitter
    2. General gasfitter
    3. Journeyperson gasfitter
    4. LPG gasfitter (vapour phase)
    5. LPG gasfitter (liquid phase)
    6. Restricted automotive – LPG
    7. Restricted automotive – NGV
    8. Restricted automotive – LPG forkflits
    9. Restricted automotive – NGV forklifts

Qualification & Experience Requirements

You need to meet the following requirements:

* Generally, Certificate III in Plumbing and/or Certificate IV in Plumbing and Services in the appropriate stream along with completion of relevant units.
