In Tasmania, the Department of Justice issues trade licences. There is no specific licence for Carpentry. It falls under the building and construction; hence you need to have a Builder’s Licence for carpentry work.
The Builder’s Licence is divided into 3 classes:
Each class of licensed builders is further divided into sub-classes of Low Rise, Medium Rise, and Open. The General Construction class also has a sub-class of Domestic. These sub-classes determine the scope of work of licensees.

| Demolisher (open) | Certificate IV in Demolition or equivalent competence in performing demolition work as evidenced by experience | Evidence of having carried out, managed, and arranged demolition works for at least five different projects. * At least three of these projects must have required the complete demolition of a commercial building over five storeys in height. |
